Native to India, Indonesia and southern and tropical Afric a, these
60 species of popular and resilient evergreen perennials are grown
for their stiff, fleshy, patterned 12-24 in (30-60 cm) tall leaves.
Stems of greenish white, slightly fragrant flowers appear in late
spring in warm conditions. In Africa the fibers are used to make
hemp.

Cultivation: Species of Sensevieria will tolerate sun or shade and
most soil types; over-watering may cause rotting at the leaf bases
and at the roots.
