Nolina Liliaceae

Beaucarnea recurvata, Ponytail palm, Pancur sari, Nolina

Beaucarnea recurvata, Ponytail palm, Pancur sari, Nolina

This slow-growing, evergreen tree is commonly sold in pots for the novel appearance of its swollen stem base; this tapers upward to a palm-like trunk bearing at its apex a dense crown of strap-like, downward-curving leaves up to 3 ft (1 m) long.
Mature plants bear large feathery panicles of cream flowers in spring, followed by pinkish 3-winged fruit.
Old specimens can achieve massive dimensions, the swollen base reaching up to 12 ft (3.5 m) wide, with multiple trunks 15-20 ft (4.5-6 m) tall.
Flowering colors: Cream, Pink
Cultivation: They can be grown outdoors in mild to warm climates, in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
Water well while growing, but sparingly in winter or the stem may rot.
Propagate from seed or from suckers.
