This nut is being able to survive for a month or so floating in the
ocean.
It is characterized by its slender, often curved trunk, topped with
a head of long, gracefully drooping fronds. It bears in a continuous
succession large panicles of small creamy-yellow flowers, a few of
which develop into the familiar yellow-green fruit that dries and
browns as it ripens.
There are many selected strains, including Malay Dwarf with much
shorter trunk and abundant golden-yellow nuts. Flowering colors:

Cultivation:It does best in full sun in deep, porous soil with ample
moisture but will of course tolerate coastal conditions.
It is raised from seed, which germinate in a few months if the whole
unhusked nut is laid on its side on moist sand. |
