This slow-growing species is probably the most popular due to its
prominently swollen, bottle-shaped trunk.
Even mature specimens usually have fewer than 10 fronds which gives
the palm an attractive and elegant silhouette.
It is almost extinct in the wild but its popularity in tropical
gardens ensures its survival.
Position: Sunny, Semi-Shaded
Cultivation: They prefer lowland tropical or subtropical climates .
In their native ranges, these palms grow in fertile volcanic soil
but in gardens they will do well in any reasonably fertile soil that
drains well.
They are usually grown in full sun but will tolerate part-shade.
