The bright green leaves of this species grow up to 10
ft (3 m) long,
form two opposite rows and are held on tightly overlapped long
stalks.
Its trunk terminates in the sheathing bases of the leaf stalks,
which lap together. The whole arrangement grows 30 ft (9 m) tall,
spreading out to form a wide, flat fan of foliage.
Clusters of white flowers emerge from between the leaf bases in
summer.

Cultivation: Ravenala needs rich, moist but well-drained soil and a
sunny spot in a hot climate.
