Common
name(s):
Moonbeam
Crepe jasmine
Occurring naturally from northern India to China’s Yunnan province
and northern Thailand, this twiggy, heavily foliaged shrub grows to
about 6 ft (1.8 m) high. It has leathery leaves up to 4 in (10 cm)
long. White tubular flowers in terminal clusters open throughout the
warmer months; their scent is strongest in the evening. Flore Pleno
is a double-flowered cultivar and is much more widely grown than the
species. These beautiful shrubs are excellent container plants and
can be lightly trimmed to shape.
Cultivation: They grow best in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil,
in a sheltered position in sun or dappled shade. Water well all year
round. Propagate the species from seed and the cultivars from
cuttings. |
