It
grows up to 20 ft (6 m) high with a single trunk and a palm-like
head of foliage.
The leaves are up to 24 in (60 cm) across and are carried on 24 in
(60 cm) stems.
Young plants fruit most heavily and it is wise to keep a succession
of plants coming on as replacements.
The fruits come in the second year
Cultivation: Plant in rich, moist, well-drained soil in sun or
part-shade.
