This is a genus of some 200 species of slow-growing ever green trees
or shrubs mostly from tropical Asia with a few from Africa.
They are grown for their thick foliage and edible fruits.
Some species are cultivated for the yellow latex in their stems,
which has been used in dyeing and is said to have medicinal
properties.
Flowering colors: White
Cultivation: Plant in part-shade in moist, well-drained soil and
water regularly.
Male and female flowers are on separate trees, but male trees are
rare and most fruits are formed without fertilization.
They thus contain no seeds.
Propagation from cuttings or by layering is difficult and the trees
bear fruit only in equatorial climates, so they are rarely seen away
from their homelands.
Bear fruit after 15 years!!
They fruits one till twice a year,depending on the weatherconditions. |
